Biography

Shun Lopez is a musician, percussionist, and drummer. He was raised in Tokyo, Japan. Shun began his musical journey at the age of 4 with keyboard lessons. He showed an early interest in drums and began taking lessons at the age of 6. His classical percussion journey started at the age of 12 when he moved to the United States and joined the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Program.

To pursue his interest in jazz fusion, Shun began taking lessons from the well-known and accomplished master drummer and educator Tommy Igoe, starting at the age of 12 and continuing throughout his high school years. After graduating from high school, he continued his musical education at NYU, studying a wide range of percussion instruments and genres with multiple mentors, including Jonathan Haas, James Saporito, Eriko Daimo, Sean Statser, Javier Diaz, and Josh Samuels. He is currently completing his master’s degree at NYU.

Shun’s current focus is the vibraphone, studying under Mark Sherman, while continuing to develop his versatility as a performer across classical, jazz, and contemporary genres.
